Two small settings protect your domain like a lock and a curtain: the Registrar Lock stops anyone transferring your domain away without your approval, and Privacy (ID) Protection hides your personal contact details from the public domain records. Both live on your domain's page in the client area.
Turn ON the Registrar Lock
- Log in → Domains → My Domains.
- Click your domain to open its management page.
- Find the Registrar Lock status on the page.
- Enable the lock if it shows as unlocked/off.
✅ Result: The domain shows Locked. Nobody — including someone who somehow gets your EPP code — can transfer it away until you unlock it. Normal things (website, email, renewals, DNS changes) are not affected by the lock at all.
Remember to unlock it yourself on the day you genuinely want to transfer the domain to another registrar — a locked domain's transfer is rejected until you do.
Privacy / ID Protection
Domain ownership records can be looked up publicly. With ID Protection enabled, your name, email, phone and address are replaced by the registrar's proxy details — while you remain the legal owner. If ID Protection is offered for your domain ending, you can enable it from the Addons area of the same domain management page; some endings include it free, others offer it as a small paid add-on, and a few endings (including some country domains) do not allow hiding the owner at all.
⚠ Common mistakes & fixes
- Thinking the lock blocks renewals or DNS edits: it doesn't — it only blocks transfers away.
- Keeping the domain unlocked "for convenience": the lock is your single strongest anti-theft setting. Convenience is not worth a stolen domain.
- Privacy on, but details still visible somewhere: old records and third-party sites may show historical data for a while — that fades; your current official record is what's protected.
