Forgot a mailbox password, a staff member left, or a mailbox keeps filling up? Passwords and storage quotas for every email account are managed in one place in cPanel — the Manage screen of Email Accounts.
✅ Before you start
- Log in to cPanel (you do NOT need the mailbox's current password — the account owner can reset it)
- Remember: after a password change, every phone/app signed into that mailbox needs the NEW password
Steps: change the password
- Log in to cPanel → Email section → Email Accounts.
- Click "Manage" next to the email account.
- In the Security section, type the new password (or click Generate for a strong random one).
- Scroll down and click "Update Email Settings".
Steps: increase the storage quota
- On the same Manage screen, find the Allocated Storage Space setting.
- Enter a larger value (in MB) — or choose unlimited if your plan allows it and you accept the risk of one mailbox eating the account's disk.
- Click "Update Email Settings".
✅ Result: Both changes apply immediately. The mailbox accepts the new password everywhere, and the quota warning clears.
⚠ Common mistakes & fixes
- "My phone says password wrong" after the change: expected — update the password in the phone/app too. Until then it may keep trying the old one.
- Raising quota but the account still can't receive: the whole hosting account's disk may be full, not just the mailbox. Check Files → Disk Usage.
- Endlessly raising quota for a junk-filled inbox: first delete old mail (Email Disk Usage shows the biggest folders) — quota increases hide the problem, they don't solve it.
